We are seeking to commission students and recent graduates from Renfrewshire to create inspired, original imagery for our project.

We are now interviewing people about their interpretations, opinions, and feelings about the Renfrewshire Witch Hunt, and witches in general. It's a great story, and also an important one. We warmly encourage anybody who would like to speak with us to contact us in the following ways.

The Society are delighted to share an example of Christian Shaw's signature with the community. This is very exciting, as it offers us all a direct, physical connection to this person who was at the centre of the Renfrewshire Witch Hunt of 1697.

While Christian Shaw will always be closely connected to Renfrewshire, she spent much of her later life in Edinburgh. The main reason for this would have been down to commerce and finance, as she sought to consolidate the early success of the Bargarran Thread Company.

Christian Shaw was buried on the 8th of September, 1737, in Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh. She would have been around 51 years of age. There is no record of the actual date or cause of her death. It would almost certainly have happened in the first days of September, given the Scottish tradition of burying people as quickly as possible.

We are now looking to recruit some volunteers for our Project.

Our application to The Heritage Lottery Fund was successful and funds are now in place.
